Respiratory Virus Guidance- COVID-19, Influenza (Flu), and RSV

• Follow standard practices when you are sick- stay home, visit a doctor, etc. We recommend getting tested if you have symptoms. 
• If you test positive for COVID-19, Flu, or RSV, it is recommended to wait until symptoms have been improving for 24 hours to return to school.
• If you have a fever (100.4F or greater), you must stay home until you have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication
• If you are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, you must stay home for at least 24 hours from the last episode. 
• Once symptoms are improving, it is recommended to wear a mask around others for the next 5 days to help curb the spread of illness.

The school district includes informational materials regarding influenza and influenza vaccinations and meningococcal disease and meningococcal vaccinations developed, provided, or approved by the Department of Public Health under Section 2310-700 of the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois when the board provides information on immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health issues to the parents or guardians of students.

As described in 105 ILCS 5/22-30, the school district is participating in the Undesignated Medications Program in collaboration with the Lake County Health Department (LCHD). In this Program, the Medical Epidemiologist at LCHD has issued a standing order protocol for trained school personnel to use undesignated medications  [i.e. epinephrine injection, asthma medication, and/or naloxone] in the setting of medical emergencies wherein a student, visitor, or staff person is experiencing severe allergic/anaphylactic reaction, respiratory distress, and/or opioid overdose. The medications will be administered in appropriate circumstances.

As described in 105 ILCS 5/22-30, the school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school and its employees and agents, including the Lake County Health Department Medical Epidemiologist, are to incur no liability or professional discipline, except for willful and wanton conduct, as a result of any injury arising from the administration of epinephrine, asthma medication, and opioid antagonists regardless of whether authorization was given by a pupil's parents or guardians or by a pupil's physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse. Parents or guardians must indemnify and hold harmless the school district, public school, charter school, or nonpublic school and its employees and agents, including the Lake County Health Department Medical Epidemiologist, against any claims, except a claim based on willful and wanton conduct, arising out of the administration of asthma medication, an epinephrine injector or an opioid antagonist regardless of whether authorization was given by the pupil's parents or guardians or by the pupil's physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse.
