Our School

Built in 1957, Copeland Manor School is a kindergarten through fifth-grade neighborhood elementary school. The first addition to the neighborhood came in 1963 when a learning center was added. Three separate additions have expanded Copeland to the current size, including new front offices and a new east wing hosting a Learning Center built in 1997, a new front entrance and multipurpose room with an attached kitchen were added in 2009, and, more recently, more classrooms and a new gym were added in 2017. 

With a sixth Day Enrollment in 2023-24 of 373 students reported to ISBE, grade level teams are divided into three or four classrooms. From interactive classroom lessons to multi-age buddy activities, students at Copeland have boundless opportunities to learn and grow both academically and socially. Throughout the school day, students can be found broadcasting announcements, communicating their ideas, recording evidence of their learning, building in the makerspace, designing inquiry projects, explaining math strategies, and helping one another. Along with engaging day-to-day classroom activities, Copeland students also have opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities such as the Variety Show, along iwth Family Math and Science Nights. Students in 4th and 5th grade can participate in band or orchestra; Chorus Club, Drama Club, Sign Language Club; and intramural sports such as volleyball, basketball, and cheerleading.

The Copeland community is fortunate to have parents actively involved in the education of their children. Parents have described Copeland as a high achieving focused neighborhood school that nurtures students while challenging and differentiating learning. Parent volunteers are welcomed into classrooms to assist with academics and special events. The Copeland Family Association (CFA) organizes numerous events throughout the school year that benefit the students of Copeland. ArtFest, Exploration Day, Famous Artist presentations and assemblies are just a sample of the highly anticipated school events made possible by the CFA.

Copeland's School Improvement Plans is reviewed yearly by a committee of dedicated staff members. Data from district benchmark testing, standardized testing and the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey is reviewed. Goals are created to increase student achievement and the social-emotional development of Copeland Manor students. Formal and informal assessments in Copeland classrooms guide instruction and learning, as well as, provide feedback to students, teachers, and parents. While utilizing the District 70 Applications of Learning, the Copeland community focuses on continuous improvement and student growth to prepare our students to live and work in the 21st century.
