Program Information:
Adam Chandler is a journalist and author based in NYC and a former staff writer at The Atlantic. Chandler's book explores what happens when hard work, grit, and ambition aren't enough to become successful. He traveled across the US, interviewing teachers, civic leaders, elected officials, faith leaders, blue-collar workers, and entrepreneurs, and concluded that it's a myth that success is a matter of individual ingenuity and bootstrapping. Self-reliance is laudable but not in itself sufficient. Humans are an interdependent, relational species, and achievement has deep roots in connection with others.
